The Giant Peach visits thinkspace... check out Tiffany Owenby's new works...

The killer new website/webshop/info portal www.TheGiantPeach.com recently paid us a visit here at Thinkspace and we just wanted to mention that to you all, as we really dig the site/shop and what they've got cooking over there. You may have noticed their cool ads in the past few issues of Juxtapoz.

View their visit to our gallery at the news archive link below, just scroll down to 'December 6th' and you can check it out:
http://64.207.135.117/news/db/archives/2007_12.php

They took a special liking to a new artist we were debuting in our back room by the name of Tiffany Owenby. Tiffany is a paper mache sculpture artist living in NC. I came across her work in NYC last year when I went to the gift shop for the Folk Art Museum there next to MOMA. This year I visited again, to find more new works, and decided to add a piece to our collection and got in touch with her upon my return to LA.

We'll be posting some great new works from Tiffany in our 'available works' section later this week. Until then, check out more on here at her site: www.tiffanyowenby.com

Our hearts go out to Skot Olsen and the Harold Golen Gallery...

Just saw this on the Kid Robot forum and wanted to send out our thoughts... this is just horrible and such a loss - Skot's new body of work was just stunning.

From the board:
Hundreds of amazing and beautiful lowbrow paintings and artwork were destroyed yesterday morning when a fire broke out in Miami Wynwood Art District's "Harold Golen Gallery" - the current exhibition was especially important due to the international art fair Art Basel, which wrapped up this past Sunday. Among the paintings that were lost are the work of Ron English, Tim Biskup, Niagara, Mars One and most notably Skot Olsen. The now destroyed show was called "Subjective Reality" and featured at its center ALL of the new neo-psychedelic artwork of Skot Olsen, which has taken years to complete. Destroyed in the fire were a dozen paintings by this lowbrow/pop surrealist artist who unveiling his new direction and more realistic painting style at Art Basel show this weekend.

All that remains of his work are a few prints available on the artists website: Saint Psilocybe & Saint Elyse's Epiphany. http://www.skotolsen.com/purchase/prints.php

Obviously, Skot Olsen is shocked and heartbroken and could use any support that the art community can muster. A year of work down the toilet!

Thinkspace profiled in the new issue of Juxtapoz (issue 84)...

Thinkspace is profiled in the upcoming issue of Juxtapoz (issue 84 / Tomer Hanuka on cover) as part of their monthly 2-page "Insider" feature. We were photographed by the one and only Estevan Oriol and the article was written by Kevin Staniec who does .ISM magazine (www.KevinStaniec.com) - be sure to check it out, came out really nice and we can't thank Juxtapoz enough for profiling our gallery.

Vinyl Pulse talks up the Snow Angels opening...

Jack and the VinylPulse.com gang have posted a lil' preview of tonight's Snow Angels exhibition here: http://www.vinylpulse.com/2007/12/snow-angels-120.html

If all goes as we hope, and this damn rain stays away, it will be snowing out front the gallery tonight via a snow machine we've rented. Come on out and marvel at the snow falling in SoCal.

Also, not to be missed, the debut of the "Heartbeats" print from Stella Im Hultberg - get through early and know we'll also be debuting the new print Ekundayo as well, "Too Much Of Anything...", that was recently profiled in the latest issue of Juxtapoz.

Come on through, the girls have delivered a beautiful array of work and in our project room, Jesse Hotchkiss has created a new series of works that are sure to get folks talking. Don't sleep on this guy.

Hope to see you all this evening!

Ekundayo has gone in and embellished the gold teeth, parts of the wings and crosses on each bible in the piece with gold leaf, he's also taken blue acrylic and embellished his body and wings... and he's even gone in and added some designs elements and marks with ink after he laid on the acrlylic and gold leaf embellishments. Jon Todd updates site / mention on Juxtapoz.com / tons of upcoming shows to keep an eye out for...

Juxtapoz recently shinned a light on up and coming Canadian artist Jon Todd. We love his style and each work he churns out is getting tighter and tighter. He is in a ton of shows in 2008, including a big LA solo in Thinkspace's project room next December... keep an eye and get on board now before his prices rise, as the amount of work he puts into each piece is stunning and the pieces should be going for so much more, but it's all about the come up and getting out there... and he'll be doing that in a big way in '08.

Peep the Juxtapoz love here:

An aritst to watch out for in the coming year...

If you are not yet familiar with the delicate and beautifully bizarre world of Japan's Yuka Yamaguchi, please take a moment to check out her site at:

http://www.plastiquemonkey.com/

Yuka has shown the world over, and has really been picking up a lot of new fans in the past year via her active blog and exposure via a number of high profile group shows including .ISM's Untitled Love Project.

Look for her to return to LA in Jan as part of Thinkspace's special benefit for the API. Shortly after that she'll be having her debut solo show in Japan - we wish her the best of luck!

Fans of Lilly Piri and Fumi Nakamura should definitely check her site out right away.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone / let's make a hand turkey!

In celebration of Thanksgiving, and never letting your inner child die, I give to you the below link to bring back the magic of hand turkeys!

http://crafts.kaboose.com/hands-and-feet-turkey.html

How amazing would a hand turkey theme show be? hahaha

Be sure to get out to this Saturday's Cannibal Flower event if you are in town this holiday weekend... save for Robert Hardgrave's solo at BLK/MRKT, it's a pretty quiet weekend on the LA underground art scene.

Dayo was also interviewed recently on SlamXHype.com - check it here:

National Bird Day will take place on Sat, Jan. 5th, 2008 and thinkspace will be hosting a special exhibition entitled “Fight For Flight” that will have an opening reception on Fri, January 4th. The opening will be sponsored by Dewars and Grolsch and will take place from 7-11PM. There will be a special motorized installation from P. Williams in our front room and an exhibition in our main gallery featuring over fifty international artists contributing bird inspired works for this special 2-day only exhibition.

We will also be open on Sat, Jan. 5th from noon till 6PM for further viewing of the show and we will have a special coloring contest for kids taking place in our project room during the day that afternoon, to encourage families to come through together and experience this amazing gathering of talent and hopefully walk away with some knowledge gained on our feathered friends and all things cute and furry that the API help to protect and defend.

QUICK RECAP:
· Opening Reception: Fri, Jan. 4th, 2008 (show runs through Sat, Jan. 5th – special 2-day only event)
· Show will benefit: www.api4animals.org and help to spread the word on National Bird Day (Sat, Jan. 5th, 2008)
· 20% of all sales will go to the API and we will also have an API booth on hand in our back project room accepting further donations from our patrons during National Bird Day weekend.
