The Drawing Room comes to life...

The Drawing Room started to come to life tonight. Audrey is recreating the studio/inspiration area of her home in our front install area for all to take in.

Great first night of install and all really brought their A game to the show. Fun night this eve with a big Italian feast had by all as well as a visit from the folks at Arrested Motion (Marcus Lo seen talking below with Audrey and her boyfriend Brian) as well as a very special visitor...

That visitor being Josh Herman from Artillery magazine done up as 'Lydia', one of Audrey's more popular paintings (see below), to help break the mood a bit as he was swinging through to do a brief interview for his magazine... classic. Definitely lightened the mood to say the least hahaha... Look for an interview with Audrey and an overview on the show in the next issue of Artillery.

For those of you on the waiting list for this show, the preview link will go out late Wednesday night and we'll begin reaching out to all on Thursday throughout the day (full details will be included in the preview mail itself).

We will also be announcing print details Wed early evening PST here on the blog... stay tuned.

Jet Set Graffiti post interview with ELBOW-TOE...

ELBOW-TOE has been at this street art game for a long time, and Jet Set Graffiti recently joined him as he discusses his perceptions of street art, studio art, and the way that both aspects of his work relate to each other. From his raw paste-ups on the street, to his intricate and highly detailed collage work inside, his work is unsurpassed in both talent and emotion.

Look for ELBOW-TOE with ARMSROCK (also interviewed recently by the Jet Set folks) at his upcoming show at Thinkspace opening on December 12th... more soon.

At the framers...

Just got back from the framers as we had a couple works for The Drawing Room arrive today with broken glass, so had to run down to get 'em fixed up to find that Audrey had just left her works there to be framed... show is going to be amazing. More soon...

Kelsey Brookes opening night at New Image...

Upon entering New Image, patrons were greeted by two circular works from Kelsey Brookes that were motorized and spinning about... creating an effect that was surreal. Definitely was hard to look at these for very long. After being struck by those wonders, patrons were greated by Kelsey's impressive installation, complete with life-size skeletal sculpture...

Above is the view from the main gallery down the long hallway that leads to New Image's project room and back area/office... at the end of the long hallway was Brookes' yeti sculpture that was included in his recent show up in SF at White Walls...

Above is the entry way to New Image's project room, which on this night was also taken up by Kelsey. He covered the entire room (floor, ceiling and walls) with oriental rugs and built out the opening with some nice touches too...

Below is the view from their long hallway looking out into the main gallery (notice the nice touches at the top of the hallway from Kelsey)...

As we left Aritchoke Heart Souffle' started up their set... below, the foundation / base of his massive sculpture install... a must see show to say the least. Kelsey has raised his own bar and then some with this show. Don't sleep.

Andy Kehoe @ Black Maria...

Andy Kehoe recently opened his new show alongside his brother Ben and good friend Hiro Kurato at Black Maria Gallery out in Atwater Village. Andy is shown above in front of his works (and an add'l shot of some of his works is below). His new works for this show finally made the transition to all oils after slowly branching over from acrylics over the past year. Andy's brother Ben (shown above in front of some of his work from the show) really stepped things up a notch for this show and we were really impressed with his new work. Below is a shot of a couple of add'l pieces from Ben that were incased in clear, thick slabs of plexi...

The above shot is of a bee that fell in love with one of Andy's paintings and hung out there cleaning himself most of the night - definitely drew a good bit of attention... pretty crazy...

Cheech Marin led tour at LACMA...

Last weekend we headed down to LACMA for a special event put on by the MOCA Contemporaries where Cheech Marin led us through his special exhibit Los Angelenos/Chicano Painters of L.A.: Selections from the Cheech Marin Collection...

The Cheech Marin collection is notable for classic examples of Chicano art produced from the inception of the Chicano movement to the present, with a concentration in painting from the 1980s and 90s. This exhibition includes a number of widely exhibited works by such first-generation Chicano artists as Carlos Almaraz, Margaret Garcia, Gilbert “Magu” Luján, Frank Romero, John Valadez, and Patssi Valdez, as well as works by such younger artists as Vincent Valdez and David Flury

Cheech's passion for the work on display was contagious. We walked away from this special talk/tour inspired and amped up for the week ahead. His collection is just amazing and the way he has used his celebrity to help the careers of several artists and a scene/movement as a whole is something many in Hollyweird should learn from...

Shown below, Cheech in front of Vincent Valdez' work - by far one of the most amazing works in the exhibit.
