After a slight delay, the long awaited catalog for the landmark exhibition In the Land of Retinal Delights: The Juxtapoz Factor is now available. The catalog came out just beautifully and features the work of all the artists in this groundbreaking exhibition. Also included are essays by the curator Meg Linton and Museum director Bolton Colburn, along with full details on where all the pieces came from and more.

Ellis G. leaves his mark on Los Angeles...

Don't sleep - these won't last for long, so be sure to get on out and check out our block and the surrounding area before nature cleans Ellis G.'s delicate chalk etchings away. His chalk work captures the shadows (both from the sun and from streetlights) of everyday street objects and their surrounding environment. Anything that casts a shadow is fair game for Ellis: benches (see above), bikes, fences, lightposts, and even full city blocks (most of our block has been outlined)...

Arrested Motion did a great write up on the installation he did around our gallery, check it out here. Some great shots from the area are also posted there (shot above courtesy of AM).

Check out a great interview with Ellis G. below from Friends We Love... great insight into how he approaches the streets...

View the below video "Life Of A Shadow" to see reactions to Ellis' work and to get a lil' background on what inspired Ellis G. to start this project:

To view more videos on Ellis G.’s work check out his MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/ellis_gee

In addition to his chalk outlines of shadows at night, be sure to check out across the street from our gallery to see a whole array of his sunlight shadow outlines (see above)... just amazing. Very cool to try and get them to line up again... amazing to see how quickly the world really does turn when you have a reference point such as these.

Ellis G. will soon publish his first book 'Adhesives', the ultimate compendium of graffiti, graphic design and street art stickers with Miss Rosen Editions for Powerhouse Books. Watch for it!

Gaia and Rachel Lowing have also safely arrived and are in the thick of thier installation as well (shown above working on 'the bridge' aspect of their install)... you'll have to wait and see what that's all about...

Celso and Stikman are also lurking about in the shadows of LA... keep an eye out for them about town.

Dan-ah Kim's debut NYC solo show coming up...

Hot off showing with us down at Art Basel as part of our 'Looking Glass' exhibit, Brooklyn-based artist Dan-ah Kim is preparing for her debut solo show in NYC coming up this weekend.

Dan-ah Kim
'Misadventures'
January 10 – February 4, 2008
Reception: Saturday, January 10, 6:30
Giant Robot Gallery
437 East 9th Street (Between 1st Ave. & Ave. A, in the East Village)
New York, New York 10009 / (212) 674-GRNY (4769) / grny.net

Dan-ah Kim is a Brooklyn-based artist and designer who divides time between making art and freelancing in film and television. Kim's show will include paintings and mixed media pieces of various sizes, done with gouache, ink, acrylic, layers of paper, and threaded details. Of her recent work, the Pratt Institute graduate says she has found inspiration in everything from history and mythology to constellations. Kim mingles such stories and curiosities with her New York surroundings to create multi-layered, highly textured experiences and imagery of new worlds featuring female protagonists and fantastic creatures in heroic, colorful settings.

Look for Kim to return to Thinkspace for her second Los Angeles solo show in the spring of 2010. Until then, check out our 'available artworks' section to view some great works and if you are in NYC this weekend, be sure to swing by her show.

Happy New Year - tomorrow's the last day to view "Mostly Memory" + "Life Sentence"...

We're closed today, but please know that tomorrow, Fri, Jan. 2nd from 1-6PM will be your last chance to view 'Mostly Memory' from ELBOW-TOE and ARMSROCK + 'Life Sentence' from Jon Todd @ Thinkspace

"Armsrock and Elbow-Toe exceeded expectations with their two person show and made their mark on Los Angeles by 'getting up' all over the city. Armsrock pushed the bounds with his unrelenting portrayal of atrocity victims. The works were a gripping depiction of not so distant events which prompted viewers to pause for a moment of reflection. Elbow-Toe took his fine-art work to another level in this show. His characters were intricately rendered and flawlessly executed. The combination of his street work and fine art background were reflective in the emotional embodiment exhibited by his characters." - Arrested Motion

Thinkspace - 4210 Santa Monica Blvd in the Silver Lake section of Los Angeles
