East Of Eden opening night a huge success...

The East Of Eden multi-gallery exhibition that went down this past weekend at the Los Angeles Municipal Gallery at the Barnsdall Art Park was a huge success with well over 1,500 people coming out to view the exhibit throughout the weekend...


We exhibited new works from Elbow-Toe, Ekundayo, Cherri Wood, Dennis Hayes IV, Tony Philippou and Turf One and all were super well received and we passed out thousands of stickers and postcards for our upcoming shows. The view of our part of the exhibit is shown above with Turf One's amazing cut-out piece looming overhead...

We were honored to be a part of what will now be an annual event (if all goes as we hope).

Thank you to all that made it out.

Look for a ton of press to follow on this very special event. Previews on the exhibit ran in just about every major local paper and regional art magazine. We hope to have footage of the exhibit that ran on the NBC Nightly News posted on our YouTube page soon - came out great.

FUTURA VIP opening packs the house...

FUTURA's big "Strategic Synchronicity" VIP opening was this evening and the place was packed. In the house were celebrities such as Pete from Fall Out Boy and gal pal Ashlee Simpson, Saber, Revok, Estevan Oriol, Dr. Romanelli, Slick, Mr. Brainwash, several local gallery owners, collectors and downtown art scene regulars. Pieces were flying off the walls and at the close of the eve, only a handful remained for this weekend's public viewing.

Above is a shot of the massive wall mural install that FUTURA created to greet patrons as they entered the building... while on the right hand side, one of the coolest bars at an opening I've seen in sometime...

All works featuring his iconic Pointman figure had sold prior to the opening...

Shown above are works from the 'Venom Series'... it was around the time I took this photo that I heard word that Project and Cerasoli Gallery would be merging? That's the word on the streets, not sure if someone has gotten wires crossed with this news or not, but pretty crazy huh?

The man of the hour himself throws a nice lil' drawing in our sketchbook...

The Krunk guys even put together a super nice lil' momento for the evening in the form of a show catalog highlighting some of the key works and some great insite from FUTURA. Word has it he'll be showing over in the UK after this. Those of you in the UK, keep your ear to the ground for that action!

The ISM: SK8OLOGY charity online auction is about to close. Giddy on up and get to bidding, some steals to be had and all for a good cause.

A number of Thinkspace regulars are included in the show, including the beauty pictured above from Audrey Kawasaki (with bidding only at $3,200 currently - a steal given the secondary market prices currently) as well as stunning boards from the likes of Brian Viveros, Amy Sol, Kelly Vivanco, Reuben Rude, and over 150 other other artists.

All proceeds go to support Now That You Know, a non-profit that gives girls from developing countries a “secure environment for learning and growth.”

The auction CLOSES THIS FRIDAY @ 8PM PST.

The surrounding area that makes up the Barnsdall Art Park is just stunning with views of the Hollywood Hills that stretch for miles (see above) and the grounds (see below) are sprawling and filled with beautiful sculptural works throughout. The park is also home to the famous Frank Loyd Wright Hollyhock House (http://www.hollyhockhouse.net/) which will also be open for tours this weekend.

The Los Angeles Municipal Gallery that is located within the art park is the home to East Of Eden and is just a beautiful complex, all 10,000 square feet of it. It just goes on and on and has beautiful 17' ceilings and several smaller project rooms, all coming together to create an amazing viewing experience. The images above and below are of the first day of installation. We'll be sharing a room with our friends over at Black Maria and the good folk from drkrm gallery.

It was a lil' quiet the first day of installation, which was nice and allowed us to somewhat set the tone for our room. Also on hand was our good friend Leora Lutz of Gallery Revisited and one of her artists showing, Michael C. Hsiung, who was on hand doing a great mural installation... Michael is showing below 'using' his installation hahaha... the finished piece should be killer (we left before Michael was done) and Leora also had another artist coming in yesterday to do more work in her room - really looking forward to seeing how it turned out. The range of works on view will be really stunning and will go to show the strength and diversity of those represented in the exhibit.

Here's a lil' glimpse of our end of the room coming together (above). It really came out killer and we can't wait for you all to check it out. Lil' sneak at the new ones from Brooklyn-based artist Elbow-Toe can be seen below. Just killin' it.

Just about finished and ready for you all to check it out - come on out, I myself can't wait to see the rest of the exhibit, since many galleries have been bustlin' away in the space for the past two days. If time permits, I'll post a few add'l sneak peeks tomorrow (that is if I get back from the Futura show early enough!!! So stoked for that).

Lesley Reppeteaux puts the finishing touches on her install...

Tonight's the big night! Both Lesley Reppeteaux and Zach Johnsen are in town from Portland for the opening reception, so be sure to say hey to them both if you swing through. Paul Barnes won't be in from Scotland, but he'll be here in spirit, and collectors are really reacting well to his works... can't wait for all to see them in person.

AMAZING. What a show - come on by tonight, we'll be rolling 'till well past 11PM.

FUTURA preview recap...

FUTURA's "Strategic Synchronicity" show threw a surprise sneak peek show this eve during the monthly downtown Art Walk and drew in a curious crowd. Word should be spreading rather quickly on the location but they asked I not spread the word just yet, so keep your ear to the ground and watch the site (details at bottom of this post). Thursday evening's sneak peek featured only a small portion of the show and the massive space was all but closed off, as much of the back was still under construction for the show and FUTURA was also still busy creating several works in the back (though out in NYC for the weekend, to return in a couple days to get back to the show)... next Thursday it all goes down. Below, peep some shots of the show...

The special sneak peek featured four works on paper exclusive to the evening... each measured about 14x18 and were nicely float mounted - going for a reasonable $2K each - not bad. Images of two of the special pointman works are featured below.

The exhibit features several video installations that are being put together by the one and only Stash - who was on hand fresh in from NYC and I was lucky enough to talk with the man for a bit and he even bombed my sketchbook, so that was worth the trip out to the sneak peek tonight for sure...

Zach Johnsen and Lesley Reppeteaux are both in town and just going to town inside the gallery. Above is just a portion of Zach Johnsen's sprawling new installation that takes up our entire project room. Over 40 hand-cut figures make up the install. There are also 8 new mixed-media works on paper in Johnsen' exhibit.

Lesley is doing a huge mural in our front room, and a nice lil' install in our main gallery. There are 22 paintings in “Tumbling”, all hung in order telling the story of the Greek myth of Hades and Persephone.

Alongside Zach's new pieces and install in our project room, we are also super stoked to be showing 8 new works from Scotland's Paul Barnes on our salon wall.
